Job Summary Your Career At Palo Alto Networks, we spearhead innovation in cybersecurity through our Cortex Platform and Cortex XSIAM solution. These offerings deliver a unified, AI-driven security operations foundation that safeguards your entire digital landscape—from endpoints and identities to networks, cloud workloads, and attack surfaces. By ingesting telemetry from any source (endpoint, network, cloud, identity, exposure), applying advanced machine-learning analytics, and automating response actions, Cortex XSIAM transforms disparate logs and alerts into prioritized incidents with full attack-story visibility. As the Software Engineering Director / Sr Director, you will lead multiple backend engineering teams building and evolving our industry-leading security operations platform. You will define and drive the vision and strategy for software engineering—ensuring we deliver solutions that scale, perform, secure, and automate. Working in close partnership with product management, platform teams, and security research, you will oversee the design, development and delivery of innovative, dependable capabilities that meet evolving customer needs. A key part of your mission will be embedding AI-powered automation and intelligence throughout both our product architecture and engineering practices, positioning us to secure the future of software in the age of pervasive threats. Your Impact Engineering Leadership: Lead and mentor backend engineering teams, driving recruitment, retention, and talent development. Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. Product Development: Oversee the design and delivery of secure, scalable software solutions, ensuring best practices in security throughout the development lifecycle. Collaboration: Work closely with product, security research, frontend engineering and other backend teams to align engineering with business goals and customer needs. Qualifications Your Experience 15+ years of Software Engineering experience 8+ years of managing multiple software engineering teams Experience with high scale & critical systems backend engineering. Demonstrated ability to lead through organizational change, balancing strategy with execution. Proven track record of delivering complex, secure, and scalable SaaS products. B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Software and Computer Engineering, or equivalent military experience required Detailed oriented with an ability to drill down into the technical bits and bytes while enabling your employees to deliver.
