AI Engineering Intern

Why This Internship You'll own a real project from start to finish: scoping, building, evaluating, and presenting a system that uses AI to improve the experience of healthcare providers or patients. You'll work directly with senior AI/ML engineers and data scientists on a small, high-output team, not shadowing from the sidelines, but shipping alongside them. You'll report to the SVP of AI, with direct access to leadership and strategic context that most interns never see. The internship program is from May 18-Aug 7 What You'll Walk Away With A portfolio-quality project you built end-to-end, from algorithm to evaluation to interface Experience deploying AI in a regulated, high-stakes domain Advanced fluency with AI-assisted development workflows that are reshaping how software gets built Potential to contribute to a publication or patent filing, depending on the work A network of experienced builders in healthcare / AI Responsibilities Own and deliver a project that leverages AI to improve the provider or patient experience, including: Designing and building AI-driven features for healthcare applications such as medical coding, clinical NLP, or document classification Developing rigorous evaluation frameworks, including bias testing and performance benchmarking in production-relevant settings Using AI coding tools to accelerate development and iterate quickly Collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and product stakeholders to ensure solutions meet clinical and business needs Presenting findings and results to the broader team at the conclusion of the internship Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field 3.0+ GPA preferred Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Strong foundation in statistical modeling and machine learning fundamentals Proficiency with AI coding tools (Claude Code preferred) Proficient in Python for data analysis and model development Proficient in data science and ML frameworks such as PyTorch, HF Transformers, or scikit-learn Be a self-starter and possess strong sense of self-motivation Bonus: Demonstrated ability to design end-to-end verticalized applications, from algorithm development through user-facing interface Experience with large language models, or healthcare/biomedical data Exposure to cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, or similar) Interest in the regulatory and ethical dimensions of deploying AI in healthcare Compensation Range: $20-$30 Compensation for this job is subject to market conditions, geographic considerations, the candidate’s unique skills and experience, state and local laws, and budget.
