ABOUT THE ROLE As a Software Engineer, Backend at Fern, you’ll build APIs, scale AI infrastructure, and design developer experiences that reach millions of people. - Scale infrastructure to keep up with growth: Work on AI systems deployed on Vercel, AWS, and Turbopuffer that must be performant, reliable, and secure under real-world load. - Stay close to customers: We work directly with API teams at companies like Nvidia, Twilio, and Square. You’ll debug real production edge cases, shape APIs based on customer feedback, and ship improvements quickly. - Collaborate across the stack: Partner closely with product designers and frontend engineers working in TypeScript and Next.js to define polished interfaces and slick user experiences. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - You have 3+ years of professional software engineering experience. - We’re building open source https://github.com/fern-api/fern and we care deeply about taste — we’re looking for builders that know developer experience is a craft. - Strong written and verbal communication skills to solve technical problems with customers. - Bonus: Experience building with TypeScript.
