About PPI (P roduct and Pipeline Innovation ) The Product and Pipeline Innovation (PPI) team at Flagship Pioneering plays a critical role in advancing Flagship’s mission to conceive, create, resource, and grow first-in-category life science companies. PPI partners closely with platform companies and the broader Flagship ecosystem to develop pipeline strategies and guide indication choices that maximize the value of platforms. The team also leads senior-level RD governance processes to inform portfolio and asset progression choices across the ecosystem. Position Summary The Senior Director / Vice President, PPI Strategy Operations, is responsible for building and evolving the frameworks, processes, and tools that support pipeline prioritization, indication selection, and cross-functional execution within PPI. This individual also contributes directly to pipeline and indication strategy development engagements with platform companies. The Senior Director / Vice President is also responsible for the operational effectiveness of the Product Partnering Review Committee (PPRC), which informs on portfolio choices and asset progression across the ecosystem of Flagship companies. Reporting to the COO, Product Partnering, the Vice President/Senior Director manages the Associate Director, PPI Strategy Operations. Key Responsibilities The Vice President / Senior Director, PPI Strategy Operations, co-leads the design and refinement of PPI’s operating model in collaboration with the platform companies. This includes clarifying engagement models, decision rights, and interfaces to ensure that portfolio strategy and execution are supported by a clear and durable structure. The Vice President / Senior Director co-leads the development of pipeline and indications strategy frameworks, value frameworks, and related portfolio tools. This includes establishing consistent approaches to indication selection, defining stage-appropriate deliverables (including commercial and financial outputs), and supporting value pool mapping. Based on portfolio needs, the Vice President / Senior Director will also directly contribute to the development of pipeline and asset strategies in partnership with our platform companies and the broader PPI team. The role drives the strategy, structure, and effectiveness of the Product Partnering Review Committee (PPRC). Responsibilities include defining objectives and meeting architecture, facilitating discussions, shaping decision outputs, clarifying expectations for materials and analysis, and ensuring that the forum evolves as portfolio needs change. The Vice President / Senior Director oversees management of the broader PPI body of work, including initiative tracking, prioritization processes, and execution monitoring. They ensure transparency into commitments and progress, elevate emerging risks or bottlenecks, and support informed decision-making regarding sequencing and focus. Minimum Qualifications Advanced degree in life sciences (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent). 7–10+ years of experience in biopharma strategy, portfolio management, RD strategy, or corporate development. Experience as a Principal or Project leader (or equivalent role) at BCG, McKinsey, Bain, Clearview, or another top-tier strategy consulting firm, with demonstrated ability to lead complex engagements particularly in the area of indication strategy development Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous problems, build analytical frameworks, and translate insights into actionable strategic recommendations.
