AI Research Scientist

Docugami uses powerful artificial intelligence to unlock the information contained in highly varied, unstructured business documents. Business users, without IT or development projects, can immediately create custom analysis of vital document content and information from large batches of contracts, can assist users in creating new documents more efficiently and consistently, and can automatically connect information from within documents to other business systems. Docugami started with years of RD, and has received a $10M seed round of VC funding as well as multiple endorsements from industry leaders and publications. The founders are seasoned ex-Microsoft engineers and leaders, some already well known in the software industry for their record of building and running $1B+ innovative software product businesses. Docugami recently established Docugami Europe and has chosen France to be the hub of the new Docugami Europe AI research lab. We are looking for an exceptional AI research scientist to lead the lab and manage an equally exceptional team of researchers and PhD interns. The goal of the Docugami Europe AI research lab is to continue to push our cutting-edge technology forward and collaborate with scientific institutions in France and Europe. You will love this job if: You want to work at the very cutting edge of artificial intelligence, multimodal machine learning, and natural language processing research You love solving really challenging problems and seek opportunities to see your research deployed in practice to solve real world problems and impact millions of users You are adept at communicating with a variety of stakeholders and audiences, including academics, team members, executives, and customers You enjoy sharing the results of your research with others in a company and the wider scientific community via published papers, speaking opportunities, and team sessions You have experience managing a team to perform to their best of their ability What you’ll be responsible for: Functioning as the head of the Docugami Europe AI research lab and leading a small team of researchers and scientists Proposing solutions to the different science problems in an evolving environment Leading collaboration with partners in academia and scientific institutions to stay at the very forefront of RD in the industry Collaborating with engineering and product leadership to plan and prioritize a long-term roadmap of science breakthroughs Working with engineers who will be responsible for integrating and deploying your work in production Sharing the results of the AI research lab through paper publications, conference engagements, and conducting regular internal science reviews and educational sessions for the Docugami team What we look for in a candidate: PhD (or equivalent experience) in areas like computer science, mathematics, statistics, electrical engineering, or related fields More than 10 years of experience after completing PhD, or equivalent demonstrable industry experience Deep and up-to-date experience with some of the following: generative artificial intelligence, natural language processing (NLP), machine translation, self-supervised learning, active learning, computer vision (CV), statistics, causal inference, and other related disciplines Programming skills and familiarity of modern ML frameworks Research track record demonstrated by top-level journal and conference publications Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with direct management experience Passion for technical and scientific excellence Strong communication skills and capacity to report and disseminate results Fluent in French and English and resides in France Perks: This position is located in France and will primarily be remote, with the ability to work from anywhere in France Competitive salary with stock options Healthcare plan Competitive vacation and leave policy Work closely with a cross-functional team of highly motivat ...
