Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.

What You’ll Do:

In the Sr. Hardware Verification & Certification Engineer role, you will lead the end-to-end verification and validation of Archer’s high-voltage Battery Management System (BMS) electronics — ensuring that the hardware, sensing, and control circuitry meet the stringent safety, reliability, and certification standards required for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. You will develop and execute hardware verification plans, design and automate test setups, perform environmental and functional qualification, and generate the certification evidence needed to demonstrate compliance with FAA and industry standards such as DO-160G, DO-254, and ARP4754A. Your work will directly enable the certification and safe operation of Archer’s battery systems powering the next generation of sustainable urban air mobility.

Lead the verification and validation (V&V) activities for the Battery Management System (BMS) electronics used in Archer’s high-voltage battery packs.

Develop comprehensive hardware verification plans, test procedures, and traceability matrices aligned with system and certification requirements (DO-160G, DO-254, ARP4754A).

Define test methodologies for environmental, functional, and safety verification of BMS printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and associated sensing electronics.

Collaborate with systems, design, and certification engineering teams to derive verification requirements from system design documentation and certification plans.

Design, build, and automate hardware test setups, including instrumentation, data acquisition, power supplies, CAN interfaces, and fault-injection mechanisms.

Execute and document test campaigns at the component, subsystem, and integrated aircraft levels to demonstrate compliance with FAA airworthiness standards.

Author detailed test reports and support certification deliverables including compliance matrices, traceability reports, and verification summaries.

Participate in design reviews, hardware qualification, and root cause analysis to ensure robust and certifiable hardware performance

What You Need:

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

5+ years of experience in hardware verification, test engineering, or electronics qualification—preferably in aerospace, automotive, or other regulated industries.

Strong understanding of mixed-signal electronic design, including analog sensing, power electronics, and microcontroller-based systems.

Proficiency in developing and executing hardware verification procedures from system requirements.

Experience with environmental and EMI/EMC qualification testing per DO-160G or similar standards.
