The Senior Director, Compensation Global Mobility will report to the VP, Compensation and serve as a strategic partner to the Newsroom and the Masthead of The Times, supporting all global editorial and journalistic functions. This role is responsible for driving the strategic design, operational excellence, and holistic governance of all compensation programs for the Newsroom, Opinion, and Wirecutter at The New York Times. In addition to a newsroom-specific compensation strategy, you will lead the Global Mobility function, managing a team of four to support all international transfers and expatriates. Responsibilities: Strategic Newsroom Partnership: Serve as the primary compensation strategic partner for the Newsroom and Masthead, engaging deeply with senior editorial leaders, International leaders, and HR Business Partners to understand their unique talent needs and roles. Compensation Strategy Design: Proactively design and implement compensation solutions and strategies that align with the newsroom's long-term workforce goals, ensuring the retention of top journalistic talent globally. Global Mobility Leadership: Lead the Global Mobility function and a team of four, overseeing the end-to-end management of international transfers, expatriate packages, and global relocation policies. Union Relations: Manage compensation programs for a significant population of unionized employees, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and collaborating with Labor Relations as needed. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with HRBPs supporting the Newsroom to provide data-driven insights, pay recommendations, and strategic advice on organizational design and leveling. In addition, support client groups through mid-year and year-end compensation cycles, ensuring smooth execution and managing within internal controls. Global Editorial Support: Support all editorial and journalistic functions on a global basis, ensuring compensation practices are competitive and equitable across international bureaus. Problem Solving Innovation: Act as a consultative expert who brings creative solutions and options to the newsroom to solve complex compensation and mobility challenges. Bring a creative approach to implementing innovative solutions through AI and other tools. Global Industry Trends: Monitor global regulatory and legislative changes to ensure compliance and inform strategic compensation decisions. Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. Basic Qualifications: 10+ years of progressive compensation experience, with 1-2 years specifically in Global Mobility. Experience supporting a global workforce, including transfers and expatriate management. Experience managing and developing a team of HR or Global Mobility professionals. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders (Masthead) and international stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with unionized workforces and navigating labor relations within a compensation framework. Experience with Workday. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or GMS (Global Mobility Specialist) certification.
