Staff Software Engineer, Core Platform

Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Core Platform team, you'll drive technical strategy across infrastructure and security systems, abstractions, and paved roads that enable Vanta's entire engineering organization to build and ship products with velocity and confidence.Vanta's Core Platform team provides the foundational infrastructure that powers all engineering at Vanta. We're expanding upmarket to support enterprise customers, which requires strategic investment in platform systems that ensure security, reliability, and developer productivity at scale. As we expand upmarket to support enterprise and regulated customers, we’re investing heavily in platform capabilities that scale securely while reducing cognitive load for product teams.You'll lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives across infrastructure and security hardening. Working closely with engineering leadership, you'll shape the technical direction for systems that support Vanta's most demanding enterprise customers while maintaining the developer velocity that has driven our success.Visit our Vanta Engineering Blog to learn more about what our team is working on!What you'll do as a Staff Software Engineer at Vanta:Lead strategic technical initiatives across Core Platform's infrastructure and security domains, setting the technical direction for foundational systems that enable all of Vanta's engineering teams to ship quickly and securelyDesign and evolve internal platforms and paved roads that abstract away infrastructure and security complexity, enabling product teams to ship independently and safelyDrive multi-quarter platform projects that improve infrastructure reliability, and security posture across the organization, including AWS services (ECS, Fargate, Lambda), MongoDB optimization, and event-driven architectureBuild platform capabilities for enterprise and regulated environments, including FedRAMP-aligned infrastructure, secure environments, and compliance-ready deployment patternsPartner closely with product engineering, security, and leadership to understand developer needs, identify friction, and translate them into scalable platform solutionsChampion engineering excellence by mentoring senior engineers, influencing architecture across teams, and institutionalizing best practices for platform reliability, operability, and developer experienceHow to be successful in this role:Deep industry experience with expertise in platform engineering, infrastructure systems, or backend architectureProven ability to lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple quarters and teams in fast-paced, dynamic environmentsMastery in system design, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure (AWS), with demonstrated experience building and scaling platform systems that serve internal engineering teamsExperience with containerized deployments (e.g. ECS, Fargate), database management (MongoDB preferred), security hardening practices and thinking in terms of platform level abstractions and UX for developers, not just underlying infrastructureExcellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across the organization, consistently upleveling teams and presenting effectively to both technical and non-technical audiencesStrong technical foundation in modern backend technologies; experience with TypeScript, Node.js, event-driven architecture and GraphQL is a plus#LI-remote[US] What you can expect as a Vanta’n:Industry-competitive salary and equityComprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% of employee-only benefit premiums covered for most medical plans16 weeks fully-paid Pa ...
