About the role
As a Fabrication Engineer II at D-Wave New Haven, you will be responsible for the manufacturing of both discrete and fully-integrated superconducting QPU parts, using clean room facilities located both in-house and at Yale University, under the training and supervision of senior fabrication staff. Quantum devices use materials and design requirements that make the fabrication process significantly different from standard CMOS processing; your role will be to execute the process, monitor the results, and identify and troubleshoot problems as they occur. You will also be responsible for designing and executing experiments to improve parts of the process and driving the development of new processes for our next-gen integrated QPU fabrication.
In addition to production, you will assist in the process of bringing up D-Wave’s new in-house fabrication facility in New Haven in 2027, including installation and qualification of new tools and processes.
What you'll do
Responsible for the fabrication, metrology, and final QC/testing of both our current-generation chips and our next-gen integrated QPU
Operating tools such as metal deposition systems, electron-beam and optical lithography tools, and wet and dry etch systems in both the D-Wave and Yale clean room facilities
Routine maintenance of tools and facilities in the D-Wave lab, and qualification of new fabrication tools as they are delivered
Monitoring tool and process health by designing and running regular statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiment (DOE) routines
Interpreting process yield and metrology data, identifying problems with the process, and troubleshooting them as quickly as possible
Conducting failure analysis (FA) on bad devices to quickly determine the root cause and design a fix
Designing and executing experiments to improve device quality and process fidelity, and presenting the results to the fabrication team and other management
About You
1-3 years of semiconductor or related fabrication industry experience
Experience working in clean room environments, particularly in production/industry settings
Experience with standard fabrication steps such as wet and dry etch, metal deposition, and optical lithography
Experience with standard metrology tools (SEM, AFM, profilometer, etc) for both process monitoring and failure analysis
Ability to execute a process exactly as designed over many runs with no operator variation
Ability to design and execute experiments independently in a clean-room environment
Able to generate and communicat ... (truncated, view full listing at source)
