Technical Staff, Engineering Technologist -UK From applied research to advanced engineering, the Engineering Technologist team has the expertise to shape ground-breaking products, material and processes. It’s a fascinating field of work. We’re involved in assessing the competition, developing technology and product strategies and generating intellectual property. We lead technology investigations, analyze industry capabilities and recommend potential acquisitions or vendor partner opportunities. Our insights influence product architecture and definitions. And we work with colleagues across the business to ensure our products always lead the way. SUMMARY Responsible for applied research or advanced engineering in the development of new products, materials, or processes. Responsibilities include the assimilation and understanding of the industry and competitive environment for a given technology or product line, and the derivation of a technology/product strategy from this information. Leads technology investigations, performs a strategic analysis of the industry capabilities, and develops recommendations, which influence the technical product strategy and/or definition of products for a given product line, including evaluation of potential acquisitions and vendor partner opportunities. Engages design teams, systems engineering, marketing teams, suppliers, and business unit leaders and executives to ensure the strategy or product architecture meets Dell’s requirement of product leadership for the given technology area or product line. Use for jobs that are responsible for development of external customer products.  Jobs that are responsible for development of internal systems and applications should use jobs in the Information Technology group. ACCOUNTABILITIES • Develops long-term technology strategies based on the technical and business information • Drives for internal and external alignment of the strategy • Develops long-term technical relationships with the vendor base for the core technology or solutions, and maintains a thorough understanding of vendor roadmaps • Identifies and develops differentiation opportunities, provides technical information, and makes recommendations to marketing, procurement, engineering, customers, and business executives • Takes a leading role in strategic technical forums and meetings on a regular and consistent schedule and assists development and systems engineering as required when working on tactical/time-to-market development issues • Supports Customer briefings and presents technical data on Dell’s product and industry direction in a convincing and authoritative form. Responsible for generating intellectual property and supporting Dell’s legal team by providing technical support on intellectual property disputes • Participates as required in strategic initiatives for improvements in process, quality, and cost • When assigned to support a product line, responsible for collaborating with the marketing, engineering, and supply base to result in a product architecture that will meet the line of business requirements for product leadership Who we are We believe that each of us has the power to make an impact.
