Roger’s previous startup, Human Interest https://humaninterest.com/, is a rapidly growing HR and personal finance software company currently valued at over $1B. While scaling the team at Human Interest, Roger noticed the acute need for tools to help make employee compensation consistent, fair, and competitive. Today, employers on average pay men 5-20% more than equally-qualified women, and most estimates place the pay gap for ethnic and racial minorities in the same range. We are building software to set compensation in a structured and collaborative way, as opposed to an ad-hoc process that lives inside siloed spreadsheets, in order to eliminate these pay gaps and improve the livelihoods of all team members. From an HR standpoint, our software helps build trust in the comp planning process, motivate achievement in a transparent and meritocratic way, and reduce turnover – including the highly painful recruiting fees, onboarding time and cost, and morale impact of recurring attrition and rehiring. ROLE We’re looking for an experienced full-stack engineer who thrives in small teams, fast-paced environments, and enjoys owning features end-to-end. You’d be joining a small but mighty team that is building a product driving multi-millions in ARR. As the fifth member of our engineering team, you will have a huge impact on a high-growth product, team culture, and codebase from day one. In this role, you will collaborate closely with us on the design and implementation of key front and back end features as we continue to expand our product. Your work will extend across coding, architecture, product input, recruiting, and other key areas. We are open to a very wide range of skill sets and backgrounds for our early hires, but you should definitely come in with solid programming experience in real production systems. You should also be up for collaboration across all functions of our (small) company, bring a positive presence and look to the team, and be able to make solid practical decisions about technical topics, including in the face of ambiguity + uncertainty. REQUIREMENTS: - General familiarity with our stack (React, Node, Postgres, Redis) -- though we've found that capable engineers can pick up new tools quickly, and aren't super focused on specific checkboxes - Experience being part of a successful software team with a diverse set of roles and perspectives (i.e. designers, developers, marketers, product managers) - Experience shipping code to production that has real impact on customers (i.e. you've worked on systems that have at least some level of scale and customer adoption) - Ability to work well in common software development teams and processes (not picky, but helpful to have worked in some variant of Agile/Scrum) - Ability to write clearly and concisely, and to give helpful feedback on code + designs created by others (of course we use video chat too, but your presence in GitHub, Slack, Notion, etc will be an important part of your work with us) - Excited about progress on the business, product and mission as much or more as you're excited about the code itself (we value them all, but in the early days we gotta move fast!) Pay Transparency In accordance with our mission, Comprehensive is committed to providing competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits to our employees. The estimated base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000/yr, but will vary based on the candidate’s experience and location.
