Job Description
Senior Software Engineer, Rust
Build the data infrastructure for robots operating in the real world.
Robotics is moving from research labs into production across factories, warehouses, vehicles, and field deployments. When robots fail, behave unexpectedly, or need to be improved, engineers rely on data to understand what actually happened.
At Foxglove, we build the observability, visualization, and data infrastructure that makes that possible. Our tools are used by robotics and autonomous systems teams to ingest, store, query, replay, and analyze massive volumes of multimodal sensor data from live systems and from production fleets.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Foxglove is a robotics observability and visualization platform. We manage and provide access to large amounts of data across both our hosted platform and customer sites.
We’re seeking a highly skilled product and Rust focused Software Engineer with professional experience delivering streaming and analytic workloads for robotics data. You’ll work with other engineers to design and develop our backend services, data processing pipelines, and interfaces.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ingesting massive volumes of sensor data through both batch and realtime offload
- Providing low-latency random-access (in device, time, sensors) playback over massive volumes of live or recorded data
- Multi-cloud architecture (we deploy in customer cloud accounts across GCP/AWS/Azure)
- Offloading data from remote devices in network constrained environments
- Building systems to manage petabytes of multi-modal data reliably and efficiently
Our technical stack includes:
- Ingestion, streaming, and other compute services in Rust and Typescript
- PostgreSQL
- Managed Kubernetes environments in GCP
- Customer deployments in Azure and AWS
- Endpoint software on customer robots written in Rust
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 5+ years experience writing production software
- Experience with a systems programming language such as Rust, C++, C, Go, or Java.
- Experience writing highly performant, memory-efficient code.
- Able to quickly come up to speed with an async Rust codebase.
- Experience with binary data serialization or network communication protocols
- Experience shipping software in network-constrained environments
- Passion for building technical tools with engineers as the primary users
- Comfortable participating in on-call rotations
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, small team environment
- Bonus points:
- Experience in robotics or autonomous vehicles
- 1+ year experience using Rust professionally
- Experience with public cloud services such as AWS, GCP, Azure, and/or Kubernetes
WHAT WE OFFER
- $300 monthly budget towards commuter benefits or building your personal workspace (remote only)
- Competitive equity grant in a Series B company
- Medical, Dental, Vision, and Term Life insurance coverage at 100% for employees and 75% for dependents
- 401(k) matching up to 4%

- Impact: Own growth at a fast-growing, high-leverage moment for the company.
- Mission: Accelerate the development of the next generation of robotics and embodied AI.
- Team: Work with world-class engineers, designers, and researchers passionate about open-source and developer tools.
- Ownership: Drive initiatives end-to-end, with high autonomy and visibility.
