At Submittable, technology and purpose converge, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful change. </p></div><p>We are seeking a <strong>Full Stack Engineer</strong> to join the <strong>Grants</strong> team at Submittable, where you will help deliver scalable, reliable, and intuitive solutions that power our grants management platform. In this role, you will work cross-functionally with Support, Implementation, Sales, Engineering, and QA to design, build, and maintain well-tested systems across the stack. You will contribute to platform stability and evolution while operating in a team that values clarity, iteration, and disciplined engineering practices.</p> <p>We are looking for engineers who excel in globally distributed, cross-functional environments and are motivated to take features from concept through production ownership.</p> <h3><strong>How You’ll Make an Impact</strong></h3> <ul> <li><strong>Back-End Development APIs:</strong> Implement and enhance scalable back-end features and APIs that support product growth and platform reliability</li> <li><strong>Legacy Code Modernization:</strong> Refactor and evolve existing codebases and services to improve maintainability, performance, and long-term sustainability</li> <li><strong>Backend Architecture Design:</strong> Design scalable, performant, and maintainable services. Identify and advocate for architectural improvements and best practices</li> <li><strong>Code Quality Testing:</strong> Write clean, testable code and participate in peer reviews that help raise the quality of the team’s output</li> <li><strong>Technical Decision-Making:</strong> Make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed, scale, and simplicity</li> <li><strong>Cross-Functional Teamwork:</strong> Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers to define and ship new features</li> <li><strong>Documentation Communication: </strong>Strengthen your written communication through design docs, planning notes, and pull request descriptions — key to thriving in a remote-first environment</li> <li><strong>System Ownership:</strong> Develop confidence in owning small to medium-sized services, including monitoring, on-call participation, and driving incremental improvements</li> <li><strong>Global Collaboration:</strong> Meet regularly with global team members between 9-12 AM EST</li> </ul> <h3><strong>What We Are Looking For</strong></h3> <ul> <li>4+ years of professional experience contributing to, maintaining, and incrementally improving production-grade full stack applications in a distributed, cross-functional environment</li> <li>Ability to rapidly understand and navigate existing product architecture and infrastructure</li> <li>Experience modernizing legacy front-end applications and working with contemporary UI frameworks</li> <li>Proficiency building and maintaining server-side and application-layer services</li> <li>Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating event-driven or cloud-based services</li> <li>Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization</li> <li>Proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues across both legacy and ...
