We’re building a gamified developer platform empowering tens of thousands of coders to compete in exciting software engineering challenges – all while pushing the frontier of LLMs!As a Backend Engineer, you'll become part of a passionate, fast moving team dedicated to solving challenging technical problems, designing engaging gamification experiences, and shaping the foundations to support the collective effort of developers worldwide.What You’ll DoLead technical discussions, guide architectural decisions, and identify opportunities for improvement across backend systemsArchitect robust infrastructure to efficiently handle high volumes of user interactions, data processing, and real-time competition dataCollaborate closely with frontend engineers and product managers to deliver seamless user experiencesOptimize backend performance, reliability, and scalability to support rapid growth and evolving product requirementsEstablish backend engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, observability, and documentationWhat You Have3+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIsSolid understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architecturesExperience designing APIs and backend services using GoFamiliarity with cloud infrastructure and services on AWSProficiency with IaaC tools (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelinesExpertise designing relational database schemas, optimizing SQL queries, and managing database performance and integrityExcellent collaboration and proactive communication skillsNice to HavesExperience with Kubernetes and orchestration of containerized applicationsKnowledge of observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)Experience designing and scaling data pipelines to handle large volumes of data efficientlyWorked with secure code execution environments and sandboxing techniquesInterest or experience in gamification or developer-focused platforms
