Addressing Black representation in the energy industry At Octopus Energy, our mission is to drive the global renewable revolution and make green energy affordable for all. In order to succeed, we need to build a team that represents everyone in our society. Unfortunately, Black professionals make up < 2% of the energy workforce, which is a significant under-representation compared to the ethnic composition of the UK. To help address this, we have created an internship programme that is only open to candidates who identify with any Black, Black British, African or Caribbean background. The Global Opportunities team The Global Opportunities team is the special projects engine of Octopus Energy Generation. We operate at the frontier of the energy transition – entering new markets, developing innovative financing models, and tackling complex challenges where the energy industry is evolving at pace. The role We’re looking for a proactive, curious, and highly motivated intern to support high-impact renewable energy and investment projects across emerging markets, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analysing complex markets, translating research into clear insights, and gaining hands-on experience in how Octopus originates, evaluates, and scales clean energy opportunities – working closely with senior leadership from day one.
