Overview The Mastercard Payment Networks team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help advance our customer experience strategy through continuous innovation and problem solving. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn Mastercard’s switching solutions, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and who brings an entrepreneurial mindset to their work. The Role What this role involves and what you will do day to day: • Take ownership of software delivery activities including development, testing, and deployment at an application or component level. • Troubleshoot, refactor, and enhance existing code to uphold exceptional code quality. • Learn and adopt new programming languages, frameworks, and architectural patterns as needed. • Actively participate in the team’s Agile ceremonies and contribute to planning and decision-making. • Pick tasks from the backlog, seek guidance when required, and deliver in collaboration with the full scrum team. • Understand the broader system view, including end to end logical architecture of your domain. • Provide thoughtful feedback and suggestions to improve engineering practices and product quality. • Apply Mastercard’s technology policies in day-to-day work. • Engage in continuous learning and contribute to engineering guilds and community initiatives. • Influence team decisions and support peers and less experienced engineers. • Assist in preparing technical documentation for APIs and services. All About You – Skills & Experience Needed Core Engineering Skills • Strong Java Full Stack engineering background with attention to scalable design and code quality. • Hands-on experience developing Java 8+ applications using SOLID principles, design patterns, and modern microservices architecture with Spring Boot and event-driven patterns. • Working knowledge of messaging technologies and integration patterns such as Apache Kafka, NATS, etc. • Familiarity with stateful stream processing concepts and foundational understanding of Apache Flink. • Strong understanding of secure coding standards (OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT). • Good background in cloud-first development and infrastructure-as-code concepts. Quality, Tooling & DevOps Practices • Strong understanding of Git branching strategies (e.g., Gitflow) and peer review best practices. • Ability to use engineering quality tools such as Sonar, Checkmarx, etc., to identify and fix code quality issues. • Experience building unit, service-level, and integration-level tests to ensure comprehensive coverage. • Familiarity with common design patterns including Chain Of Responsibility, Factory, Adapter, Singleton, Composite, Observer, Strategy, and IoC. • Understands the importance of requirement analys ...
