Quality Control & Metadata Technician (Video Archive)

Job Description: We are seeking a methodical and detail-oriented Quality Control & Metadata Technician to support the ongoing digitisation and preservation of our legacy video archive. This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and long‑term integrity of our digital assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the technical quality of newly digitised video files, validating that they meet preservation standards before the corresponding original tapes are deaccessioned. In parallel, they will transcribe and enrich the associated metadat a, often derived from handwritten logs , to improve searchability and contextual understanding of global news footage. Given the scale of the project, the role requires not only precision but also the ability to work efficiently and maintain high quality within a high‑volume workflow. A solid understanding of world events and geopolitics will help the candidate accurately interpret the content. About the Role: In this opportunity as Quality Assurance Engineer, you will: Key Responsibilities Quality Control of Digitized Video Conduct rigorous QC checks on newly digitized video files, ensuring technical accuracy Flag any issues, anomalies, or missing content and coordinate with the Archive T eam for re - digit iz ation. Meet project throughput targets while maintaining consistent accuracy and attention to detail. Metadata Transcription & Enrichment Accurately t ranscribe handwritten shotlists , labels, and documentation into structured digital metadata fields. Enrich metadata with correct names, locations, dates, and context to enhance discoverability and search relevance. Identify key individuals, locations, and events within footage, drawing on a strong understanding of global news, geopolitical history, and current affairs. Workflow & Documentation Maintain accurate records of QC outcomes, errors found, and corrections made. Follow established workflows and contribute to process improvements where appropriate . About You: You're a fit for the role of Quality Assurance Engineer if your background includes: Skills & Experience Essential Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to repetitive, accuracy‑critical tasks. Experience in video quality control, media handling, digitisation, or archive work. Ability to read and accurately interpret handwritten notes in varying styles and conditions. Strong understanding of global news, geography, and geopolitics. Strong organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage a high‑volume workflow. Proficient in using digital asset management systems . Desirable Experience working with broadcast or histo ical media archives. Familiarity with tape-based video formats (e.g., Betacam , DVCAM, U-Matic). Personal Attributes Able to balance precision with efficiency in a time‑sensitive workflow. Curious, analytical, and able to recognise patterns and inconsistencies. Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively.
