Scientist, Genome Engineering

We are looking for a talented Scientist with knowledge and passion for ambitious synthetic biology projects and large-scale genome engineering for species conservation and de-extinction. We will be building tools and methodologies for engineering various cell types, and will develop workflows to manipulate large DNA fragments and genomes. The candidate will work with a talented group of engineers and biologists committed to developing novel conservation technologies that will change the world. This position is based in Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available. Duties/Responsibilities: Design, innovate and iterate: DNA assembly, integration, editing and screening Build enabling molecular and cellular tools Perform DNA/RNA transfections and/or viral transductions Quantify genome editing events using various molecular assays Data analysis, figure generation and timely reporting of results Present findings at small forums and RD meetings Maintain a thorough and detailed electronic lab notebook Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space Basic Qualifications: PhD/MS in synthetic biology, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics or related field is required, or 3+ years hands-on expertise in genetics and genomic manipulation Solid understanding and hands-on experience with current editing techniques Experience with cell culture, DNA/RNA transfection, bacterial culture, recombinant DNA cloning techniques, primer design and PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction and purification Self-motivated, proactive, works well under pressure and deadlines, detail oriented Enthusiasm for learning new skills and taking on new responsibilities Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills Enjoys the fast-paced startup environment and teamwork Preferred Qualifications: High throughput screening experience or automation methods NGS library prep, immunostaining and flow cytometry experience Current experience with next-generation editing tools What Colossal Offers Full-Time Employees: Medical, dental, and vision coverage Excellent paid time off and company holidays so you can rest and recharge Flexible spending accounts (FSA) Company matched 401k retirement plan Paid parental leave at 100% salary for up to 12 weeks Education reimbursement An opportunity to help us return the Earth to a healthier state The team at Colossal is committed, colorful, passionate, intelligent, collaborative, creative, experienced, scientific and world-class.
