Job Description
Project Name: Peninsula Bioregional Habitat Restoration (BHR) Phase 1, Including Predator Management and Oak Mitigation
This project will support the Natural Resources and Lands Management Division role in implementing aspects of Phase 1 of the San Francisco Public Utilities Bioregional Habitat Restoration program, which include:
Developing and implementing a program to benefit special-status species, specifically California red-legged frog (CRLF) and San Francisco garter snake (SFGS), through habitat management and removal of non-native predators at the BHR mitigation sites and other permit required locations on the Peninsula Watershed;
Providing technical expertise and recommendations towards development of a Long-Term Management Plan (LTMP) for the Phase 1 BHR sites;
Developing and implementing a restoration program for oak woodlands to meet state regulatory requirements
Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Senior Biologist (Biologist III) plans, designs, develops, manages, and coordinates biological and ecological monitoring for restoration and mitigation projects, environmental compliance, and stewardship programs on San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) watershed lands. The Biologist III works independently and with other staff to evaluate environmental conditions associated with utility operations and maintain compliance with regulations and policies in support of the mission of the Natural Resources and Lands Management Division (NRLMD). The Biologist III oversees consultants and contractors; gives technical direction to staff biologists, interns, and volunteers; manages contracts and directs consultants; and may exercise supervision during the absence of the Supervising Biologist. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a program to benefit special-status species, specifically CRLF and SFGS, through habitat management and removal of non-native predators at the Peninsula BHR mitigation sites and other locations on the Peninsula watershed. Responsibilities also include providing specialized technical expertise and making recommendations towards development of a Long-Term Management Plan (LTMP) for the Phase 1 Peninsula BHR sites and developing and implementing a restoration program for establishment and enhancement of oak woodlands to meet state regulatory requirements.
Nature of Work
This position may require working in the field in watersheds, streams, and rivers, and on boats in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs; working with mechanical and/or electrical equipment; handling hazardous materials; and driving or hiking to remote locations on unimproved dirt or mountainous roads and trails. May also require working in inclement weather and hazardous wildland conditions, with little or no advanced notice for fieldwork. May be required to work overtime shifts, weekends, and holidays.  
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee and manage biological monitoring programs and biological studies.      Make recommendations and participate in the development of habitat management plans or restoration projects for the conservation of rare, threatened, and endangered species, specifically the CRLF and SFGS        In conjunction with Supervising Biologist, plan, organize, and prioritize biology projects and programs. Identify knowledge gaps and data needs and develop studies and new monitoring programs. Evaluate existing monitoring programs in response to new regulatory requirements, new scientific findings, or to resource management needs and make recommendations.           Plan and implement restoration projects and resource management activities.        Develop partnerships and peer review opportunities with research institutions and other agencies to improve current scientific understanding, ou ...
