Why This Role Matters
The Washington Post is seeking a high-energy, news-obsessed Booker (Contract) to join our Communications Team. This is a fast-paced role for someone who lives at the intersection of breaking news and logistics. Your mission is to place our journalists in front of both new and established audiences on platforms including cable news, streaming, podcasts, social video and more.
How You'll Support the Mission
Pitching: Identify, pitch, and secure interview on-air opportunities for Post journalists to discuss their reporting and columns. This includes, but is not limited to, network and cable news channels, streaming programs, podcasts, radio and more.
Logistics Management: Coordinate all technical and travel logistics, including studio bookings, remote link-ups (Zoom/LiveU), car services and scheduling.
Relationship Building: Maintain and expand a deep rolodex of media bookers and producers.
Briefing: Preparing journalists with topics, tough questions and closing the loop in providing links to the resulting interviews.
Breaking News Response: React instantly to breaking news cycles to offer expert interviews and perspectives.
Skills and Experience you Bring
Experience : 3 years in broadcast booking with existing media relationships
Availability : Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and/or weekends
Communication : Exceptional interpersonal skills, including pitching; the ability to be persuasive yet professional under pressure
Judgment : Sharp editorial instincts and a deep understanding of current events, politics and pop culture
