Software Engineer (Full Stack Enterprise)

SOFTWARE ENGINEER (FULL STACK ENTERPRISE) Freeform is deploying software-defined, autonomous metal 3D printing factories around the world, bringing the scalability of software to physical production. Our proprietary technology stack leverages advanced sensing, real-time controls, and data-driven learning to produce digitally-verified, flawless parts at unprecedented speed and cost. In this role, you will design and build the core platform that runs Freeform’s factories and connects every part of the business- from quoting to production to delivery. The system must handle large amounts of data, support many different factory processes, and provide end-to-end traceability from powder-in to finished parts-out. You’ll lead architecture and implementation, make foundational technical decisions, and work closely with engineers across disciplines to solve real, complex problems with your code. 3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology! Responsibilities: Implement a state-of-the-art enterprise software platform to seamlessly integrate Freeform’s business processes from sales to manufacturing Develop applications to track the end-to-end lifecycle of millions of parts across thousands of customers around the world Work cross-functionally with other engineering and operations disciplines to gather requirements and solve problems with your code Create highly scalable and resilient systems to meet Freeform’s high bar for quality, reliability, and security Maintain accessibility and integrity of the backend data model to enable easy access for business intelligence users Develop intuitive user interfaces with a focus on functionality over aesthetics to increase system usability Basic Qualifications: 3+ years of professional experience in modern software development languages or significant project/intern experience Experience with backend web frameworks such as Flask or Django Experience with frontend web frameworks such as React or Next.js Experience writing applications which interact with SQL databases and non-relational databases Nice to Have: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science or computer engineering Familiarity with coding agents (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development workflows. Experience interfacing with microcontrollers, FPGA, or GPU computing hardware Experience developing embedded or real-time software systems Experience writing software for industrial automation systems, rockets, spacecrafts, robotics, or related hardware that operates with the physical world Experience working in a Linux or RTOS environment Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and iterating quickly (comfortable building the plane as we fly it) Strong communicator who collaborates across disciplines and proactively seeks support when needed Willing to take ownership of tasks big and small, with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset Strong work ethic with a refuse-to-fail mindset Demonstrated indicators of excellence and/or achieving success against adversity (i.e. top academic performance, leadership in engineering clubs, first-generation college student, or other examples of resilience and achievement) Location: Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, RD, and production together under one roof.
