The role is based at DroneShield’s central Sydney headquarters. Overseas on-the-ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries worldwide. About the role DroneShield is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Data Enablement team within the Sensors & Effectors organisation (Sydney). The Data Enablement function is responsible for capturing, transforming, annotating, and serving high-quality RF datasets to support next-generation detection and disruption algorithm development. This team sits at the intersection of software engineering, data engineering, and real-world data operations. This role will focus on building embedded data capture software and data platform capabilities to support operational data teams. This role is ideal for a hybrid software/data engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering problems, enjoys end-to-end ownership, and is passionate about mentoring others. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations Build embedded software to capture radio-frequency datasets and ingest RF recordings into on-premises data infrastructure Develop and maintain data transformation pipelines, data quality checks and APIs to deliver high-quality datasets to internal stakeholders Develop and promote testing frameworks, best practices, and design patterns Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a high-performing engineering culture Desirable: Support and improve database systems, including data migrations and user management Who you are You are results-driven, reliable and take full ownership of your projects You take full ownership of technical projects and enjoy producing software that solves a customer need You have a can-do attitude and thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment You’re a team player and are passionate about mentoring junior engineers in the team Qualifications, Experience and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer or Data Engineer in production environments Strong proficiency in Python, plus at least one c ...
