Role Overview As part of the beqom engineering team, you will contribute to software that supports pay fairness for employees around the world — while bringing your technical skills to make it scalable, performant, and high-quality. Your mission will be to build, enhance, debug, and maintain the back end of the beqom SaaS application, used by 100+ customers globally. You’ll work in an agile, iterative environment, mentoring other engineers and helping raise the bar on testing, automation, and code quality across the team. This role is for someone who brings both strong engineering fundamentals and genuine comfort with statistical and analytical work — someone who doesn’t just check whether the code runs, but whether the output is actually correct. What you'll be doing Build new back-end features, services, and APIs, and improve existing ones. Analyse and understand functional and technical requirements, collaborating with internal and external teams as needed. Work on statistical and analytical features end-to-end — implementation, testing, and verification that the output is correct. Review pull requests from other engineers, including code produced with AI assistance. Maintain applications and perform code and infrastructure upgrades. Handle data migrations, backfilling, and large dataset operations with care. Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, the Tech Lead, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions. Mentor and coach other Software Engineers, helping them discover new technologies and improve their development practices. Troubleshoot issues reported by users and provide timely resolutions. Use AI coding tools in your daily workflow, and help the team improve how we use them. Contribute ideas and prototypes for AI-powered product features. Share knowledge and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture. Skills & Experience What you'll bring Technical Demonstrated senior-level expertise in Software Engineering with proven back-end experience. Strong Python fundamentals — you understand the language deeply, not just one framework on top of it. Hands-on experience with Django (our primary framework). Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar), including query optimisation and migrations. Experience designing and building REST APIs at scale. Solid testing practice — unit and integration — with a real care for correctness on numerical and analytical code. Domain Comfortable with applied statistics: regression, distributions, p-values, residuals, and reference groups. Able to reason about whether a result makes sense, not just whether the code runs. You don’t need a PhD, but you need to be the engineer who catches when an analytical output is subtly wrong. AI mindset An active, opinionated user of AI coding assistants — Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar — in your daily work. Genuine curiosity about how AI can be embedded into user-facing products, beyond developer tooling. Ways of working Fluent in English, written and spoken; additional languages are a plus. Strong communicator and collaborative team player. Proactive, open-minded, and comfortable taking ownership of the projects you work on. Bonus points if you have Experience with Java.
