Associate Legal Counsel, Privacy, Product & AI (f/m/d)

<h2><strong>About the Opportunity</strong></h2> <p>Contentful is an innovative, customer-focused company in a large and growing market. This is a unique opportunity for a junior attorney to join a dynamic legal team in exciting and emerging areas of law. As Contentful’s Associate Legal Counsel - Privacy and Product you will advise and partner with our Engineering, Product, Security, IT, and other teams throughout the organization, to help develop and implement Contentful’s data protection and AI programs, while managing risk and compliance with existing and emerging laws through product counseling. Success in this role requires a collaborative and supportive mentality, experience working with AI technologies to create efficiencies and solve problems, and the ability to distill complex legal concepts into simple, actionable business advice. This role will report directly to the VP Deputy General Counsel PPIC (Privacy, Product, IP Compliance).</p> <h2><strong>What to expect? </strong></h2> <ul> <li>Draft and negotiate privacy and security clauses and contracts.</li> <li>Conduct due diligence on existing and new suppliers through the completion of privacy and AI risk assessments.</li> <li>Design, build and implement AI-powered legal tools and lightweight integrations that automate legal workflows, improve accuracy, and expand team capacity. </li> <li>Assess new product features for privacy and AI risks and work with the Product and Engineering teams to develop and implement mitigating controls. </li> <li>Draft new and update existing data protection and AI-related policies and procedures.</li> <li>Provide advice and guidance on tactical and strategic product and privacy matters to business teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws and contractual commitments.</li> <li>Help develop and maintain all aspects of Contentful’s privacy and AI governance programs.</li> <li>Respond to third party and employee inquiries regarding their data rights and Contentful’s processing activities.</li> <li>Create records of processing activities.</li> <li>Work on cross-functional projects to develop and implement company-wide workflows and processes.</li> <li>Analyze new data protection and AI laws and regulations and help develop and implement compliance initiatives.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What you need to be successful?</strong></h2> <ul> <li>1-2 years legal experience</li> <li>Experience with SaaS and AI technologies and a curious and experimental mindset</li> <li>Knowledge of global privacy and AI laws, including GDPR and the EU AI Act</li> <li>Foundational knowledge of common cybersecurity concepts and terms</li> <li>Experience advising clients on risk mitigation across technology product platforms</li> <li>Excellent judgment, analytical rigor, clear communication, and business pragmatism</li> <li>Strong writing skills with an attention to detail</li> <li>Solution-oriented approach in working with the business</li> <li>Experience working with cross-functional teams</li> <li>CIPP certification</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What’s in it for you?</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Join an ambitious tech company reshaping the way people build digital experiences</li> <li>Full-time employees receive Stock Options for the opportunity to share in the success of our company</li> <li>Fertility and family building benefits, including a lifetime reimbursable wallet to support your growing family.</li> <li>We value<strong> Work-Life balance </strong>and<strong> You Time</strong>!<strong> </strong>A generous amount of paid time off, including vacation days, sick days, education days, compassion days for loss, and volunteer days</li> <li>Time off to care for and focus on your growing family </li> <li>Use your personal annual education budget to improve your skills and grow in your career</li> <li>Enjoy a full range of virtual and in-person events, including workshops, guest speakers, and fun team activities, supporting learning and networking exchange beyond the usual wor ...
