We tackle critical platform challenges at the application layer — helping backend engineers ship robust, maintainable services through scalable frameworks, secure dependency management, and world-class tooling. This team drives the backbone of developer productivity at Robinhood.</p> <p>As a <strong>Senior Software Developer</strong>, you’ll lead projects that elevate engineering velocity, safety, and code quality across all backend services. You’ll be hands-on with tools like Django, staticcheck, mypy, and ruff — while mentoring engineers and shaping the technical strategy for core platform components like service bootstrapping, formatting pipelines, and IDE support. You’ll partner closely with Infrastructure and Product teams to drive large-scale migrations, optimize workflows, and push the boundaries of what’s possible for backend development at Robinhood!</p> <p>The role is located in the office location(s) listed on this job description which will align with our in-office working environment. Please connect with your recruiter for more information regarding our in-office philosophy and expectations.</p> <h2><strong>What you’ll do</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Design and lead high-impact projects to improve frameworks, common libraries, and the backend development lifecycle</li> <li>Own and evolve core tooling used across the monorepo — including static analysis, code formatting, and project scaffolding</li> <li>Build delightful developer experiences with enhanced IDE plugins (VSCode, Goland, PyCharm) and interface definition tools like Protobuf</li> <li>Drive best practices in backend architecture through standardization, automation, and opinionated defaults</li> <li>Mentor engineers across the org and champion team values like “Start with Why” and “Easy to Make the Right Choice”</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on tooling investments, migration strategies, and security improvements</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What you bring</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Significant experience building scalable backend systems in Go and/or Python</li> <li>Deep familiarity with server-side frameworks such as Django or Go-based systems</li> <li>Strong track record designing or maintaining internal developer platforms or shared infrastructure</li> <li>Experience mentoring engineers, guiding technical decisions, and contributing to team-wide strategies</li> <li>Passion for developer productivity, quality engineering practices, and thoughtful abstraction</li> </ul> <p>Our team is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming interview experience for all candidates.
