Bring yours to Block.</p> <p><strong>The Role</strong></p> <p>The Growth Product Data Science team sits at the heart of Square's seller growth strategy within Block's broader AI and Data org. We partner deeply with product, design, and engineering to surface insights, design experiments, and influence product strategy and roadmap prioritization. We creatively use a diverse set of tactics across the 'full stack' of data tools to foster data-driven decision making. Our work directly impacts seller outcomes—furthering Block's purpose of economic empowerment—while contributing to data science excellence and innovation across Block.</p> <p>Work from anywhere: This role can be performed from any location in the US with the flexibility to work from home</p> <p><strong>You Will</strong></p> <ul> <li>Analyze large datasets using SQL scripting languages to surface actionable insights opportunities to the product team and other stakeholders, driving strategy and facilitating decision-making for key business initiatives</li> <li>Approach problems from first principles, using a variety of statistical modeling techniques to research and understand customer behavior and business performance</li> <li>Design analyze A/B tests and apply pseudo-experimental methods such as DiD, synthetic controls, or related causal inference techniques</li> <li>Build, forecast, and report on metrics that inform strategy and facilitate decision-making for key business initiatives: visualizing data in self-serve dashboards for your partners</li> <li>Work with engineers to log new, useful data sources as we build new product features</li> <li>Write code to effectively process, cleanse, and combine data sources in scaled useful ways, often resulting in curated ETL datasets that are easily used by the broader team</li> <li>Effectively communicate your work with team leads and cross-functional stakeholders on a regular basis</li> <li>Expand your influence in the Block Data Science community by developing and evangelizing data solutions to improve analytics insightfulness and actionability.</li> </ul> <p><strong>You Have</strong></p> <ul> <li>8+ years of related experience</li> <li>Fluency with SQL and Python</li> <li>Experience using AI tools to automate mundane tasks, accelerate development, and enhance solutions</li> <li>Experience with BI tools and data engineering fundamentals</li> <li>Familiarity with standard machine learning concepts and statistics concepts (including causal inference)</li> <li>Experience leading cross-functional projects; influencing without authority</li> <li>Experience working with technical and non-technical partners, including engineering, product, and business teams; particularly strong written communication skills</li> <li>Comfort with ambiguity and ability to define problems, not just solve them</li> </ul> <p><strong>Technologies We Use and Teach</strong></p> <ul> <li>SQL and ETL: Snowflake, Airflow, Prefect</li> <li>Data Viz and BI: Looker, Tableau, Mode, Amplitude</li> <li>ML / Stats: Python (Databricks)</li> <li>Hypothesis testing: Growthbook, LaunchDarkly</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p>We're working to build a more inclusive economy where our customers have equal access to opportunity, and we strive to live by these same values in building our workplace.
