Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.</p></div><p><strong>ULTRA PRECISION MACHINING SPECIALIST (MACHINING) - LEVEL 4/5 </strong></p> <p>As an Ultra Precision Machining Specialist, you will be responsible for developing precision machining cells to produce single-digit micron parts and production volumes. This is a unique and challenging opportunity to use world class equipment, fully utilize your technical skillset and experience, and work with some of the best and brightest in their fields. The scope of this team is to make the parts that other companies cannot and to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible to machine.</p> <p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Responsible for scoping, developing, executing and automating precision machining processes using 3/4/5 axis mills, multi-axis turning centers and pallet systems </li> <li>Designing tooling, CAM programming, and working with machinists to prove out and bring up new product lines on tight timelines</li> <li>Proactively identify and address potential development/production blockers</li> <li>Bring development projects into production through defining and communicating manufacturing processes to production/engineering</li> <li>Responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting defined processes while in production</li> </ul> <p><strong>BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalency certificate</li> <li>5+ years experience independently developing machining processes (planning, programming, machining)</li> <li>5+ years experience using CNC mills and lathes</li> <li>3+ years developing machining processes using automation (pallet pools, robot loaders, etc.)</li> <li>Basic understanding of GDT and how it applies to the machined product</li> <li>Ability to interpret CMM results and apply them to the machined product</li> </ul> <p><strong>PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or materials engineering</li> <li>15+ years experience independently developing machining processes on 5 axis mills and multi-task turning centers (planning, programming, machining)</li> <li>Experience bringing single digit micron tolerance machined part processes into production</li> <li>Experience creating clear manufacturing process proposals (cycle time estimates, tooling design, part flow)</li> <li>Demonstrated “exceptional” machining ability</li> </ul> <p><strong>​ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must be available for 10 hour shifts</li> <li>Ability to work all shifts, overtime and weekends as needed</li> <li>Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted</li> <li>Ability to stand for extended periods - 8 hours min</li> <li>Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces</li> <li>Ability to work in an environment with repetitive movement, bending or twisting, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls, exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting</li> </ul> <p><strong>COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:</strong></p> <div>Pay range: <br>Ultra Precision Machining Specialist/Level 4: $44.00 - $54.00/hour</div> <div>Ultra Precision Machining Specialist /Level 5: $48.00 - $62.00/hour</div> <p>Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.</p> <p>Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
