<p><strong>Senior Manager - Detection Engineering (OPEN TO REMOTE CANDIDATES IN THE UNITED STATES)</strong></p>
<p>We’re looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Security Detection Engineering team. In this role, you’ll grow and shape our detection engineering program and level up our security incident response processes. The ideal candidate is hands-on and technical, with experience in security engineering, detection development, incident response, and who knows how to support and empower a team. You take a practical, risk-based approach to security—focusing on impact, driving automation wherever possible, and keeping things efficient without overcomplicating them.</p>
<p><strong>What You'll Do:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Shape and execute the long-term strategy for detection engineering, security incident response, threat intelligence, and threat hunting</li>
<li>Lead efforts to build detections, tools, automations, and integrations that strengthen our threat detection and response capabilities </li>
<li>Mentor, grow, and support a team of security engineers</li>
<li>Work with Fastly's Incident Management team to improve our security incident response processes, playbooks, and metrics</li>
<li>Partner with engineering to implement security controls</li>
<li>Lead security incidents for the company</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>What We're Looking For: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>An empathetic and inclusive leader with experience in leading a team of security practitioners</li>
<li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate security risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders</li>
<li>Technical understanding of attacker threats and exploitation techniques, and first-hand experience in investigating them</li>
<li>Experience in scaling a detection engineering program and building high-fidelity detections-as-code </li>
<li>Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, or Rust.</li>
<li>Experience leading large cross-functional security incidents, conducting security investigations, and log analysis</li>
<li>Experience in securing, identifying threats, and responding to incidents in one major public cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).</li>
<li>7-10+ years of relevant experience; we are open to strong candidates with varying backgrounds who can demonstrate equivalent expertise and impact.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>We’ll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Published security research or have spoken at community events on detection engineering or security incident response</li>
<li>Familiarity with content delivery networks (CDN), edge cloud platforms, or other Fastly products and services</li>
<li>Experience with Linux administration at scale, associated intrusion/manipulation techniques, and standard methodologies for system hardening and process isolation.</li>
