<p>The Data Services team is focused on building robust, scalable, and efficient data services, pipelines, lakes, tools, libraries, and software components that drive best practices and empower service teams to succeed. We design and implement data services, pipelines and data lakes for operational analysis, ensuring they are production-ready with automation and standardized access controls. </p>
<p>We lead and evangelize the principle of 100% automation. Additionally, we establish best practices, provide training, and document data architectures to ensure our systems are reliable, future-ready, and capable of continuous evolution and process improvement across the organization.</p>
<h3>About the Role</h3>
<p>Crunchyroll is growing and changing, presenting unique challenges and opportunities to support millions of anime fans around the world. The Data Engineering team provides seamless help to our internal stakeholders, ensuring an exceptional experience for all Crunchyroll fans.</p>
<p>As a Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing data services, ensuring that our data services support the needs of the business. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance eventing systems, and develop tools that empower our data and services teams. Your expertise will also be critical in driving 100% automation, best practices, creating scalable services, and optimizing our data environments.</p>
<h3><strong>Key Areas of Responsibility</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented API and code while adhering to industry best practices, including code reviews and design patterns.</li>
<li>Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring that both frontend and backend components are optimized for speed and reliability.</li>
<li>Contribute to the automation and optimization of build, deployment, and monitoring processes to support a smooth development lifecycle.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain comprehensive test suites (unit and integration) to ensure system reliability and robustness.</li>
<li>Implement and maintain security best practices, safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.</li>
<li>Must be proficient in both TypeScript and Python</li>
<li>Design, build, and maintain scalable applications/services using TypeScript and Python and modern backend frameworks (Node.js preferred).</li>
<li>Build event-driven architectures and event interfaces using AWS services such as SNS/SQS, EventBridge, Kinesis, or Kafka.</li>
<li>Deep understanding of AWS Processing Framework like Step Functions</li>
<li>Architect and optimize database schemas and queries for relational (RDS PostgreSQL, MySQL), NoSQL (DynamoDB) and Graph Database (Neo4j).</li>
<li>Collaborate with service engineers, data engineers, and product teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.</li>
<li>Apply best practices for code quality, security, testing, and performance optimization.</li>
</ul>

<li>5+ years of experience in backend engineering, specializing in microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems.</li>
