<p>We are looking for a Staff Engineer to build, and maintain the data infrastructure at Gusto Retirement. This is a cross-functional role, and as a part of the Retirement Data Platform team, you will partner with engineering teams and work closely with Product, Data Science and Analysts, Compliance and Operations teams to help them achieve their goals. We are looking for a person who is able to understand stakeholders problems and translate complexities of non-technical stakeholders into practical data solutions.</p>

<p>We’re a small team building data infrastructure to empower data-driven decision-making, passionate about working with data to help people save for retirement.</p>
<p><strong>Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Build and refine our infrastructure and tools that enable other teams to work with data</li>
<li>Take full ownership of the solutions you build, partner with other teams, work with stakeholders to refine ideas, shape scope, implement solutions, monitor production, and troubleshoot problems that arise</li>
<li>Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate with existing systems and unblock dependencies</li>
<li>Participate in an on call rotation to support the deployment of supported platform services and the management of the underlying infrastructure</li>
<li>Identify, adopt and improve frameworks, policies and tools to streamline the development process</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Here’s what we're looking for:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>At least 7 years of experience in a similar role</li>
<li>Hands-on experience building data infrastructure at scale</li>
<li>Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency in SQL for data extraction and manipulation</li>
<li>Experience building solutions in the cloud (GCP/AWS/Snowflake)</li>
<li>Experience with streaming systems (Kafka or similar)</li>
<li>Ability to turn vague requirements into clear deliverables with minimal guidance</li>
<li>Curiosity and ability to operate in an AI-native environment, leveraging AI tooling to enhance infrastructure operations</li>
</ul>
<p>Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $163,000-$204,000/year in Denver, $178,000-$223,000/year in Los Angeles, and $197,000-$247,000/year for San Francisco, New York, and Seattle. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.</p><div class="content-conclusion"><hr>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately <strong>2-3 days </strong>per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.</span></p>
<p>Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. </p>
