<p>The Accounting team at Betterment is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company’s financial information. The team collaborates with partners throughout the organization to ensure financial results are reliable, compliant with US GAAP, and reflective of Betterment’s business performance. Accounting plays a critical role in supporting company growth by managing the close process, enabling informed decision-making, and driving process improvements that align with Betterment’s evolving products and operations.</p>
<p>As part of this collaborative, high-performing team, you’ll contribute to strengthening Betterment’s financial foundation, helping scale our accounting processes, support audits and compliance efforts, and deliver high-quality financial insights to leadership.</p>
<p>This role is based out of our NYC office and we require in office attendance Monday through Thursday, weekly. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees. </p>

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.</p>
<h2><strong>A day in the life</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: bold;"><strong>Help manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring not just accuracy, but high-level synthesis of results for leadership.</strong></li>
<li>Assist in the preparation, review, and analysis of journal entries, account reconciliations, and fluctuation analyses across general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP</li>
<li>Maintain the integrity of Betterment’s financial results by managing close deliverables, resolving issues proactively</li>
<li style="font-weight: bold;"><strong>Architect and champion process improvements and internal controls that allow the finance function to scale with company growth and maturity.</strong></li>
<li style="font-weight: bold;"><strong>Act as a primary financial consultant to Operations, Product, Marketing, and Legal, ensuring accounting alignment on all major initiatives.</strong></li>
<li style="font-weight: bold;"><strong>Lead the implementation of complex US GAAP guidance for new revenue streams, product launches, and sophisticated vendor agreements.</strong></li>
<li>Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits, ensuring audit readiness and effective communication</li>
<li>Contribute to the growth of the accounting team by providing guidance and mentorship, constructive feedback, and opportunities for skill development</li>
</ul>
<h2><strong>What We’re Looking For</strong></h2>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance</li>
<li>8+ years of accounting experience, with evidence of assuming roles of greater responsibility</li>
