It’s why tens of thousands of restaurant locations love Toast.</p> <p><strong>A day in the life (Responsibilities) </strong></p> <p>Toast is building modern, reliable, and scalable web and mobile experiences that power restaurants and businesses of every size—from single-location operators to complex multi-location groups. As a Product Designer focused on Core web and mobile Experiences and the Design System, you’ll shape the foundations: the patterns, components, and interaction models that make our web and mobile experiences cohesive, efficient to build, and delightful to use.</p> <p>You’ll work across product areas to strengthen navigation, information architecture, common workflows, and system-level UX—while partnering closely with Design System engineering to deliver a robust component library, as well as AI-connected tooling and clear guidance that helps teams move faster with higher quality.</p> <p><strong>What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Own core web and mobile UX patterns</strong>: Define and evolve cross-product experiences like navigation, layout, tables, forms, settings, permissions, multi-step workflows as well as AI features and interactions.</li> <li><strong>Build and scale the design system</strong>: Create and maintain components, patterns, tokens, workflows and guidelines that drive consistency across our web and mobile ecosystem.</li> <li><strong>Enable other teams</strong>: Provide consultative support to product designers and engineers adopting system patterns; improve adoption through documentation and enablement, examples, and best practices.</li> <li><strong>Partner deeply with engineering</strong>: Collaborate with frontend and design system engineers to ensure components are feasible, accessible, performant, and production-ready.</li> <li><strong>Drive quality across the platform</strong>: Lead UX reviews, spot inconsistencies, drive modern tooling and establish standards that elevate usability and visual polish.</li> <li><strong>Champion accessibility</strong>: Ensure experiences meet accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) through design decisions, documentation, automated tooling and QA practices.</li> <li><strong>Use data + research to guide decisions</strong>: Pair qualitative insights (research, feedback) with quantitative signals (usage, funnel metrics) to prioritize improvements.</li> <li><strong>Influence roadmap and strategy</strong>: Identify foundational gaps, propose system investments, and align stakeholders on sequencing and impact.</li> <li><strong>Stakeholder Communication: </strong>Clearly articulate design concepts, experiments and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and aligning solutions with strategic business goals.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What will help you stand out (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Restaurant Passion:</strong> First hand experience and enthusiasm for the restaurant industry and designing impactful solutions for its unique challenges is something we highly value</li> <li><strong>AI-first mindset and behaviors: </strong>As a design team, we’re forward thinking.
