Whether that experience is online or in-person, streaming video, theatrical, games, merchandise, events and more, it’s powered by the anime content we all love.</p> <p>Join our team, and help us shape the future of anime!</p></div><p>Crunchyroll, LLC is an independently operated joint venture between US-based Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Japan's Aniplex, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., both subsidiaries of Tokyo-based Sony Group Corporation.</p> <h2><strong>About the role</strong></h2> <p>In the role of <em>Video Playback Services Software Engineer 2</em>, you will report to the Senior Engineering Manager, Playback Services.</p> <p>We are considering applicants for the location(s) of Mexico City, Mexico.</p> <p>As a Software Engineer II on the Playback Services team, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of backend services that power the video playback experience for Crunchyroll’s global audience of anime fans.<br>In this role, you will:</p> <ul> <li>Design and implement backend services and APIs that support video playback and configuration</li> <li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and QA to deliver high-quality features</li> <li>Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving code quality and system architecture</li> <li>Debug and resolve moderate to complex issues related to video delivery, service health, or API behavior</li> <li>Take ownership of small to mid-sized features or components, from design to deployment</li> <li>Follow and contribute to engineering best practices around testing, documentation, and deployment</li> </ul> <p>You will report to the Manager of Playback Services and work closely with more senior engineers to grow your technical and systems thinking skills. </p> <h2><strong>About You</strong></h2> <ul> <li> <p>You're a great fit for this role if you:</p> <ul> <li>Have 2–4 years of professional software development experience</li> <li>Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)</li> <li>Have solid experience with backend programming languages such as TypeScript, Go, or similar</li> <li>Have hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP</li> <li>Understand the fundamentals of video streaming, APIs, and backend service architecture</li> <li>Are comfortable working independently on well-defined projects and collaborating in an Agile environment</li> <li>Communicate effectively and are proactive in seeking feedback and mentoring more junior engineers when appropriate</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p>The Video Platform teams build the systems that power Crunchyroll’s most important user experience: watching video. From ingestion to playback, we work on highly scalable systems that deliver video across mobile, desktop, and connected devices.</p> <p>The Playback Services team focuses on the backend systems that support the player, including configuration, telemetry, and playback optimization.
