Staff Software Engineer - Platform

<h2>The Mission</h2> <p>As a Staff Software Engineer (Backend) on the Platform team, you will play a critical role building and operating cloud-native backend and platform infrastructure that is scalable, secure, and reliable by designing, implementing, and evolving our backend systems, CI/CD automation, and cloud infrastructure. You will operate with broad technical ownership across multiple domains, driving initiatives end-to-end from architecture design through production deployment.</p> <p> </p> <h2>The Team + Role</h2> <p>You will lead backend projects on a team of 5 (without direct reports), influence architectural direction, and partner closely with cross-functional peers to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient systems. You will drive meaningful technical outcomes across CI/CD, automation, and service operations, partnering closely with product and engineering teams to ensure teams can ship confidently.You will support the backend platform to design, implement, and optimize AWS-based infrastructure and deployment pipelines. This role requires strong technical ownership, clear communication, and the ability to navigate ambiguity while raising the bar for engineering practices.</p> <h2>What You'll Need</h2> <p><strong>Technical Expertise:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to deliver value in highly ambiguous problem spaces</li> <li>Exceptional architecture experience solving complex and edge-case problems across product, platform, cloud, and/or security domains</li> <li>Proven experience driving business requirements through deployment with measurable impact</li> <li>Deep expertise in backend system design and distributed systems</li> <li>Own and evolve our CI/CD automation and cloud infrastructure strategy to improve reliability, scalability, and security</li> <li>Best-in-class CI/CD practices and experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation</li> <li>Experience operating observability and logging systems at scale (for example, Datadog and Sentry)</li> <li>Experience in an Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, or DevOps-focused role in an AWS cloud environment</li> <li>Expertise writing production code in Golang or Python</li> <li>Strong fundamentals in software design, development, and architecture</li> </ul> <p><strong>Mindset:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ownership and initiative in ambiguous problem spaces</li> <li>Strong product and stakeholder judgment, including first-principles decision making</li> <li>Mentorship and technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and coaching</li> </ul> <h2>What You'll Do</h2> <ul> <li>Lead architecture and technical decision making, including edge cases across product, public cloud, and the security domain</li> <li>Drive initiatives end-to-end — from ambiguous business requirements through implementation, deployment, and measurable outcomes</li> <li>Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure cloud-based services with an emphasis on efficiency and self-service</li> <li>Apply first-principles thinking to guide architectural decisions and manage stakeholder trade-offs</li> <li>Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and course correction, and how to use observability systems to operate services with confidence</li> <li>Establish and elevate engineering best practices across backend development, DevOps, and infrastructure</li> <li>Deliver business impact by solving ambiguous problems across the company and, when needed, with customers</li> <li>Partner closely with development teams and fellow platform engineers to address critical issues</li> <li>Build automation tooling to streamline provisioning, configuration, and deployment Improve service visibility via metrics, tracing, logs, and analytics</li> </ul> <hr> <h3>About Panther</h3> <p>Panther is a cybersecurity company with the mission of detecting any breach, anywhere.
