<h3>Our Database Experience (DBX) Team</h3> <p>The Database Experience team builds the libraries and tools that developers use day-to-day working with MongoDB. Our mission is to increase developer adoption, satisfaction and retention by providing a reliable, enjoyable interface for developers and other end-users.</p> <p>Our senior engineers are typically specialists in a particular programming language, but are capable of contributing to projects in other languages as well.</p> <p>For this role, we're looking for someone who will enjoy designing, writing, and supporting open source libraries for the JavaScript ecosystem developers that use MongoDB. This is an opportunity to make a major impact at MongoDB as Node.js is one of the most popular runtimes for MongoDB users, and our driver has over 6 million weekly npm downloads.</p> <h3>In This Role You Will…</h3> <ul> <li>Maintain and build features for the MongoDB Node.js Driver along with its dependencies and native C++ addons (bson, mongodb-client-encryption, @mongodb-js/zstd, kerberos)</li> <li>Contribute to JavaScript open source client libraries and MongoDB AI/ML integrations and ODMs (e.g., mongoose)</li> <li>Contribute to the common driver specifications supporting the full range of MongoDB features</li> <li>Investigate bugs and support requests from commercial customers, open source users, and internal users for the libraries our team maintains</li> <li>Collaborate closely with peers in our distributed world-wide engineering team</li> </ul> <h3>You’re Right For This Role If You…</h3> <ul> <li>Have deep knowledge of the JavaScript ecosystem, especially as it relates to backend and infrastructure development, and an interest in staying up-to-date on ecosystem trends and best practices and incorporating them into your work</li> <li>Are interested in focusing exclusively on building backend libraries and tools for other developers</li> <li>Are fascinated by, and have experience working with concurrency, parallelism and distributed systems</li> <li>Want to participate in Open Source software development and communities</li> <li>Communicate well, internally and externally, both in writing and face-to-face</li> <li>Advocate for testing and agile development best practices</li> <li>Can make pragmatic design tradeoffs while balancing features, maintainability, and delivery time</li> <li>Enjoy collaborating with and elevate the skills and expertise of those around you</li> </ul> <h3>For This Role You Must Have…</h3> <ul> <li>Have 4+ years of experience writing high-quality software</li> <li>Significant experience working with JavaScript/TypeScript on the backend of your application(s)</li> <li>Experience with databases, relational or non-relational</li> <li>Good written and spoken English communication skills</li> </ul> <h3>It Helps If You Have…</h3> <ul> <li>Experience contributing to open source projects</li> <li>Experience building production applications with mongoose and/or the Node.js driver itself</li> <li>Experience using or contributing to open source AI frameworks/integrations such as LangChain or n8n</li> <li>Experience working with MongoDB and the document model</li> <li>A diversity of experience writing tests for the software you developed (unit, integration, end to end, performance, etc)</li> <li>A working knowledge of C++</li> </ul> <h3>Success Measures</h3> <ul> <li>Within one month, you will understand the high-level architecture of the driver and how MongoDB works, and will have completed a few small bug fixes and/or feature tickets</li> <li>Within three months, you will be contributing effectively day-to-day, fixing bugs, implementing planned features, and thoroughly reviewing your colleagues’ pull requests</li> <li>Within six months, you will have implemented major features, planned new features, contributed to our common driver specifications, and will be collaborating with the Product team to help craft our roadmap</li> <li>Within twelve months, you'll have si ...
