THE OPPORTUNITY Join the team that is redefining how Hinge Health connects with our members. You will not just manage a team; you will build the "nervous system" of our member experience. We are moving beyond generic notifications to create "delightful interactions"—leveraging proprietary data and predictive models to reach members at the right time, with the right message, through the right channel. You will lead the technical strategy for a multidisciplinary engine that powers millions of nudges, emails, and in-app notifications, directly influencing member adherence and health outcomes. WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH - In your first 3 months: You will dive deep into our current communications stack and build trust with your hybrid team across San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore. You will audit our existing notification infrastructure and ship your first set of optimizations to improve deliverability and latency. - In your first 6 months: You will partner with Machine Learning Scientists to deploy the first generation of "context-aware" nudges, integrating predictive models that determine the optimal channel (SMS vs. Email vs. Push) for each member. You will also establish a robust CI/CD and monitoring framework for our ML-driven workflows. - In your first year: You will architect and scale the next-generation Unified Communications Platform, capable of supporting conversational AI and LLM-driven interactions. You will own the long-term technical roadmap, transforming Proactive Comms from a delivery mechanism into a strategic engagement engine that scales to millions of daily active users. WHO YOU ARE - A Strategic Builder: You balance high-level architectural strategy with hands-on technical leadership. You are comfortable reviewing Pull Requests (~15% of your time) while simultaneously planning a 12-month roadmap. - A Bridge Across Disciplines: You speak the language of both Software Engineering and Machine Learning. You know how to foster collaboration between engineers building robust distributed systems and scientists experimenting with probabilistic models. - Member-Obsessed: You understand that every notification is a touchpoint with a human being in pain. You prioritize "delight" over "noise" and use data to ensure our outreach is empathetic, timely, and impactful. - A Global Leader: You thrive in a hybrid environment, effectively coordinating and mentoring teams across multiple time zones (SF, Montreal, Bangalore) to deliver a unified vision. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 10+ years of total software engineering experience, with a strong foundation in distributed systems or backend services. - 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, specifically leading a mix of Software Engineers and Data Scientists/ML Engineers. - Scale & Reliability: Proven track record of building and deploying high-scale, member-facing systems that support thousands to millions of Daily Active Users. - Cloud Native: Deep experience delivering services in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
