The Role 🥳 Billing for AI products is a genuinely hard, largely unsolved technical problem. High-volume event metering, token-based usage tracking, distributed workflows, multi-dimensional pricing - these aren't standard billing challenges, and there's no off-the-shelf playbook. We're looking for a back-end leaning software engineer to step up to the challenge of taking ownership of our core billing and payments system. In this role, you’ll own the design, implementation, reliability and evolution of our systems, ensuring the company can accurately meter usage, invoice customers, and collect revenue at scale. This is a greenfield opportunity in a high-ownership, fast-moving AI company where you will own real systems with real stakes, and genuine room to redesign the foundations as we scale. You'll work across backend systems, integrations with Stripe and Orb, and internal data pipelines to ensure billing data is accurate, auditable, and resilient. You will have an opportunity to design and architect new billing infrastructure that scales with the company's growth while supporting complex AI product usage models. Your impact💥 - Design and maintain reliable billing infrastructure integrating with Stripe and Orb. - Ship meaningful improvements to our billing platform and help strengthen reliability, observability, and data integrity across the system. - Own key payments and billing workflows end to end, including areas such as usage-based pricing, metering, invoicing, and error prevention. - Design systems and processes that make our billing platform more robust, enterprise-ready, and easier to operate at scale. - Partner cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and other stakeholders to ensure billing outcomes are accurate, trusted, and well understood. - Raise the bar for backend engineering quality by improving monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational excellence in a business-critical domain. What We’re Looking For 🧠 - 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in fast-moving tech and/or startup environments. - Have strong backend engineering experience and are comfortable owning application code, services, and the infrastructure considerations around them. - Meaningful domain expertise in payments, billing, or closely related financial systems, with a strong grasp of reliability, observability, and data integrity. - Familiarity with platforms such as Stripe, Orb or similar. - Thrive in high-performance, fast-paced environments with a startup mindset. - Excel at problem-solving, taking ownership, and delivering exceptional results in complex, cross-functional domains.
