This role leads complex customer network deployments that power Ciena’s mission of enabling the world’s most adaptive networks. It drives technical excellence, advances engineering capability, and strengthens customer trust through precise execution and collaborative leadership. How you will make an impact: Lead end‑to‑end delivery of customer network designs across planning, detailed engineering, testing, and acceptance. Govern design quality across optical transmission, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Ethernet, Network Management Systems (NMS), and Data Communications Network (DCN). Guide engineering teams in translating high‑level designs into detailed, standards‑compliant deliverables. Direct troubleshooting, escalations, and technical governance for high‑complexity issues. Strengthen collaboration with Project Management, Systems Engineering, Field Services, and Customer Operations. Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, documentation, and project predictability. Represent engineering in customer and executive reviews, clearly articulating risks and mitigation strategies. The must haves: 12 years of relevant telecom engineering experience() Strong background in telecom networks including DWDM, Submarine DWDM communication technologies, OTN, and data centre interconnects. Proven experience in DWDM/OTN link integration, commissioning, and acceptance testing. Solid understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, including protocols such as OSPF, Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), and Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP). Demonstrated leadership in managing and developing engineering teams. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences. Willingness to work from the office as part of a hybrid working model Nice to haves: Experience with large‑scale legacy network migrations. Exposure to global, multi‑time‑zone project delivery. Knowledge of submarine cable network activation or new cable lighting. Familiarity with process improvement frameworks. Experience creating engineering templates and knowledge repositories.
