About Our Team
The Washington Post is powered by the passion and talent of our people. It takes all of us to reinvent news. Beyond our award-winning Newsroom and Opinions teams, we work across many departments, including Brand & Events, Communications, Customer Care, Engineering & Product, Finance, Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, Print Operations, and Sales.
Why This Role Matters
The Washington Post seeks a dedicated, agile journalist to join our hub in London, which plays a critical role in The Post’s 24-hour operations. A primary reporter/editor role will be anchoring coverage of the day’s most important breaking-news stories to help deliver an urgent, top-quality report to early-morning readers on U.S. time zones.
This role will also include shifts as a flex digital-desk editor, with responsibilities to include line-editing and managing platforms. Candidates with editing and homepage/platforms experience in addition to reporting are particularly encouraged to apply.
This position will be staffed through TWP International LLC in the U.K., subject to local legal requirements. There will be a preference for candidates with work rights in the U.K. The person who fills this role will be staffed on a five-day shift that includes at least one weekend day; it will be based in London on daytime hours.
What Motivates You

You’re comfortable and confident writing and editing on deadline.
You're excited to experiment with a variety of storytelling formats.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires constant collaboration as part of a team.
How You'll Support the Mission
Taking ownership of major storylines in the United States and around the world with keen judgment, clear writing and, when necessary, live coverage. Reporting and editing across a range of subjects with the highest level of rigor and a commitment to fairness and accuracy.
Help coordinate seamless handoffs between London and D.C.-based teams.
Ensure coverage coming out of London consistently meets The Post’s high standards.
The Skills and Experience You Bring
Minimum of 5 years of professional journalism experience, with at least two spent reporting and/or editing breaking news coverage.
A strong news radar, sharp storytelling skills, and a demonstrated commitment to teamwork. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
Familiarity with Dataminr and other digital tools.
Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 2 April will be prioritized. The salary range for this role is: £65,000 - £85,000. The actual starting salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
Collaboration makes us stronger. That’s why our offices are designed with open layouts, modern technology, and easy access to transportation. With certain exceptions for newsgathering and business travel, we work on-site five days a week.
