Why This Role Matters The Washington Post is seeking an experienced and ambitious senior graphics reporter to join our high-performing team of graphics reporters and editors. This is a role for a journalist who can conceive, report and execute visual-first stories that bring clarity and authority to complex topics — particularly economic policy and national politics . The ideal candidate combines subject-matter expertise with technical fluency and a strong editorial instinct for when and how visual storytelling can elevate our report. We’re looking for someone who can operate independently in a fast-paced newsroom while collaborating across teams to produce work that is innovative, accessible and essential to understanding the news. This reporter will play a central role in helping The Post translate economic and political developments — from decisions in Washington to shifts in labor, markets and business — into compelling visual journalism that resonates with a broad audience. This position is based in our Washington, D.C., newsroom. How You’ll Support the Mission: Pitch, lead and produce timely visual-first stories aligned with newsroom priorities, identifying opportunities where graphics can drive coverage and deliver distinct value. Lead coverage across economics and politics, with a particular emphasis on economic policy, while continuing to build and deepen expertise . Conceive and execute ambitious, high-impact visual projects — from initial reporting and data analysis through design and final production — in collaboration with editors. Translate complex economic data, policy decisions and trends into clear, authoritative visual storytelling. Contribute to breaking news coverage with fast, accurate and engaging visual elements. Partner with design, product and audience teams to create work that is compelling, accessible and optimized for reach and engagement. Help strengthen team workflows, develop tools and contribute to best practices across the Graphics team. Collaborate with reporters, editors and data journalists across the newsroom — particularly the economics team — to elevate coverage through visual storytelling. The Skills and Experiences You Bring: At least 8–10 years of experience in visual journalism, data reporting or a related field. A strong record of producing maps, information grap ...
