The Retail Experience (RXP) squad is a high-impact team focused on transforming Toast into a world-class experience for retailers. While retail adoption has grown significantly, we consistently hear that Toast doesn’t always feel like it was built for retail. RXP’s mission is to close that gap. We identify friction across the retail customer journey — from onboarding to daily operations — and deliver cohesive, retail-first improvements across Toast’s ecosystem. Our work spans the Retail module and the broader Toast platform, ensuring that retail customers feel understood and supported from day one through long-term success. A day in the life (Responsibilities) As a Software Engineer I on the Retail Experience team, you’ll play a role in designing and developing intuitive, performant, and delightful user experiences. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to bring new features to life. Here’s what you’ll be doing: Build and maintain frontend features using modern technologies like React and TypeScript. Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering teammates to deliver high-quality user experiences. Contribute to improving UI components and patterns within existing design systems. Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Learn and apply best practices in frontend development, performance, and accessibility. Participate in code reviews and team discussions to continue growing your skills. Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team. What you'll need to thrive (Requirements) 0–2 years of frontend experience building web applications (internships or academic projects included). Familiarity with modern frontend technologies such as React , TypeScript , HTML, and CSS. Basic understanding of component-based architecture and web fundamentals. Eagerness to learn, grow, and take feedback in a collaborative environment. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly. Bonus: Experience through internships, personal projects, or coursework in frontend development. Exposure to REST APIs, testing frameworks, or design systems.
