The Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer (PRN) performs advanced diagnostic obstetric ultrasound examinations using specialized equipment in a high‑risk maternal care setting. This role works collaboratively with physicians and clinical teams to produce accurate, high‑quality imaging while delivering compassionate, patient‑centered care.
Schedule
PRN weekday shifts (Monday–Friday)
Typical start time of 7:40 AM or 8:00 AM
Standard shift length is approximately 9 hours
No call
Essential Functions
Perform high‑level Maternal Fetal Medicine ultrasound imaging using appropriate protocols and techniques
Ensure proper patient identification and prepare patients for examinations
Complete and annotate medically acceptable exams following system standard scanning protocols
Ensure all exams are completed accurately and transferred to PACS
Follow appropriate processes related to medical necessity, coding, charging, documentation, and informed consent
Adhere to safety practices including body substance protection, equipment cleaning, and sterile technique
Accurately complete all required documentation, including image storage and time stamps
Demonstrate proficiency in downtime procedures and image modification in PACS
Participate in Maternal Fetal Medicine clinical training and departmental process improvement initiatives
Support additional departmental responsibilities such as quality initiatives, research activities, education, or equipment oversight as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
ARDMS: must be registered in OB/GYN or Fetal Echo
ARDMS: In addition, supports MFM research studies as directed and meet quality standards outlined by the medical director/manager for AIUM Detailed Fetal Anatomy Examination (76811) accredited practices
Demonstrates the ability to independently perform complex and challenging exams according to department‑specific requirements
Subject matter expert for advanced technologies, techniques, and practices
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers
Preferred
Three years of experience in OB and MFM with at least one year of experience in MFM
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies
Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication and the ability to hear and understand spoken information, alarms, and needs, particularly in emergency situations
Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision, including frequent computer use and documentation
Ability to lift and assist with transferring patients and handling supplies and equipment, including heavy items
Ability to walk, push/pull equipment, and navigate busy clinical environments
May be required to stand in a stationary position for extended periods of time
For roles requiring driving: ability to safely operate a vehicle and comply with traffic requirements
