Volunteer Description:
Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles. Episodic volunteers do not work in facilities but contribute time to external projects.
We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, dedicated, and committed to providing exceptional customer service to community members and staff. Volunteers are an integral part of our Orem Community Hospital family, providing consistent and valuable support in a variety of departments throughout the hospital and contributing to the extraordinary patient care experience.
This is an unpaid position that gives you the opportunity to use your talents, meet new people and experience the reward that comes from making a difference in people’s lives.
This volunteer position is specifically for the Orem Community Hospital Live Well Garden and does not involve patient care within the facility. Volunteers in this role support the maintenance, growth, and care of the community garden, which helps promote wellness, sustainability, and connection with our organization and community.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors or have interest or educational backgrounds in gardening, horticulture, botany, landscaping, environmental studies, community care, or sustainability-related programs. It is also well-suited for volunteers who appreciate hands-on work, working as part of a team, and contibuting to a meaningful community-focused initiative.
Typical duties may include:
Planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting
Assisting with seasonal garden preparation and cleanup
Supporting basic garden maintenance tasks
Helping maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized garden space
Assisting gardeners to maintain their plots
Please be advised that the volunteer hiring process is intensive and may take 2-3 weeks to get through.
Basic Competencies (knowledge, motor skills and behaviors):
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Sensitive to patient and family situations / dynamics
Able to speak, read and understand English
Able to work alone and independently (within scope of assigned duties)
Work with diverse populations
Ability to recognize boundaries and limitations of duties and not act independently of those functions
Qualifications:
Six-month commitment with a minimum of 4 hours in the garden each week. This may be split between multiple shifts
Must be at least 16 years of age
Able to work alone and independently
Good communication and listening skills
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to work with diverse populations
Physical mobility (walking, bending, standing)
Adequate hearing and vision
Sensitive to patient and family situations
Required:
Passing a background check
Agree to get a TB test
Meet Immunization compliance
Clinical Skills Assessment and Department Training Verification (training provided):
