A Day in the Life
The Product DNA PLM team at Medtronic is responsible for building and enhancing enterprise PLM solutions that enable efficient product development, compliance, and lifecycle management across global operations.
As a Sr Test Engineer (Product DNA PLM), you will drive quality engineering and testing strategies for PLM platforms such as Windchill and ThingWorx. You will ensure end-to-end quality across applications, validate complex integrations, and support delivery across multiple agile workstreams.
You will collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and architects to ensure applications meet functional, technical, and performance expectations in a fast-paced, regulated environment
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Define and execute end-to-end test strategies for PLM applications
Ensure adherence to quality standards, benchmarks, and best practices
Coordinate QA efforts across multiple workstreams
Act as a key point of contact for offshore QA teams
Validate configurations, customizations, and enhancements in Windchill and ThingWorx
Define test coverage for functional and technical components
Review solution design and technical documentation from a QA perspective
Ensure alignment with enterprise standards and best practices
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements
Define acceptance criteria and resolve requirement ambiguities
Validate end-to-end business workflows and user experiences
Ensure alignment with Product DNA processes
Perform validation of integrations across CAD, ERP, MES, MDM, and PIM systems
Ensure data integrity, interface validation, and system interoperability
Identify and resolve cross-system issues and dependencies
Work within Agile (Scrum) and Waterfall methodologies
Participate in cross-team coordination (Scrum of Scrums)
Manage sprint-level test planning, execution, and reporting
Ensure timely delivery of test milestones and releases
Support development and enhancement of test automation frameworks
Contribute to CI/CD-driven testing practices
Enable continuous testing and quality gates
Validate system performance, scalability, and reliability
Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture
Collaborate with architects on solution validation
Identify testing risks, assumptions, and dependencies
Track and resolve defects impacting system stability
Mitigate cross-release and cross-functional risks
Assess application readiness for production deployment
Ensure defect closure and test completion
Support go-live and post-production validation
Work closely with global teams across engineering, QA, and business
Ensure alignment between technical solutions and business needs
Contribute to overall quality ownership and accountability
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or related field
7-12 years of experience in QA/Test Engineering
Strong experience with Windchill PLM and ThingWorx
Experience in integration testing across enterprise systems
Knowledge of test strategy, automation, and CI/CD practices
Understanding of Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies
Ability to work with distributed/offshore teams
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice to Haves:
Experience in medical devices or regulated environments
Knowledge of GxP, validation, and compliance processes
Experience with test automation tools and frameworks
Familiarity with PLM data models and enterprise architecture
Experience working in global, cross-functional teams
