Sr. Staff Engineer, Backend - Delivery Department: Engineering Team: Backend Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil Type: Full-Time **About the Role** As a Senior Staff Engineer for Delivery (Grocery & Retail), you are a cornerstone of Uber's first development center in LATAM. You influence business and technology decisions across multiple projects to provide a best-in-class experience for earners, brands, and customers. **What You’ll Do** - Technical Strategy: Drive the development of backend services and infrastructure platforms used across the global Delivery org. - Innovation & Execution: Lead efforts in advanced telematics and real-time data processing to improve platform safety and efficiency. - Mentorship & Culture: Serve as a humble teacher and mentor to a growing regional team on uniquely ambitious projects. **Basic Qualifications** - Experience: 12+ years of experience delivering massive-scale distributed systems. - Technical Depth: Expert-level understanding of distributed theory (CAP theorem, Paxos/Raft) and technical transformations. - Education: BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience. **Preferred Qualifications** - Open Source: Significant contributions to major open-source infrastructure or distributed systems projects. - Domain Expertise: Deep vertical expertise in FinTech or Security at a global "Big Tech" scale. - Architectural Migration: Experience migrating monolithic architectures to modular or cell-based paradigms.
