About the Role: We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical actuary to help scale our actuarial toolkit and drive pricing and product analytics for a fast-changing book of business. You’ll apply core actuarial principles in creative, forward-looking ways as part of a small, high-impact pricing team with broad organizational visibility and regular interaction with senior leaders and executives. About You: You are creative, collaborative, and self-motivated, with a passion for innovation. You thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, leveraging abundant growth opportunities and accessible self-service data to develop innovative pricing solutions. Your technical approach and comfort with Python and other coding languages will enable you to contribute to and enhance our actuarial data pipelines and toolkit. You excel in navigating uncertainty and change, making informed decisions even when data is imperfect. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is a key strength. What You’ll Do: Lead the analysis and execution of state-level rate changes and new program launches from end-to-end Collaborate with Underwriting Product Management to influence business decisions around profit and growth levers Conduct regular actuarial indications and profitability studies to evaluate rate adequacy, identify growth opportunities, and inform pricing strategy Provide support for loss cost model selection, scoring, calibration, and reporting B uild raters and rate proposals in Python to ensure technical rate and model delivery Develop new tools for the pricing team, contributing to the continuous improvement of our product development lifecycle Cultivate proactive relationships with underwriting, legal, finance, risk and reinsurance, and agency to translate analytics into visible and actionable work Must Haves: Minimum of 5 years of actuarial pricing experience in Homeowners or related PC insurance lines Actuarial credentials: FCAS or near-FCAS Strong knowledge of actuarial and insurance concepts such as loss cost trends, rate indications, loss cost modeling, reserving, and other key metrics Professional coding experience using SQL and Python (or other language) for data manipulation and analysis, with opportunities to further develop these skills on the job Experience using output of predictive models Strong business acumen, linking analysis to business impact Excellent communication and project management skills Nice to Haves: Homeowners-specific pricing experience with predictive modeling and catastrophe modeling Experience designing new program launches and rating plans Comfort reading and writing Python packages and working with user-defined class structures Experience with git or version control tools Awareness of industry trends in Homeowners insurance and pricing ethics Benefits and Perks Hippo treats its team members with the same level of dedication and care as we do our customers, which is why we’re fortunate to provide all of our Hippos with: Relocation Assistance – Support available for qualified candidates relocating to one of o ...
