Job Description:
This position is responsible for transporting patients, focusing on quality, safety, and customer service, while providing care and compassion to patients, families, visitors, and staff. The level II role demonstrates expanded skills and competencies and typically performs duties that are more complex than the transporter I.
Essential Functions
Responds to Rapids, Resuscitation, and Stroke Alerts
Demonstrates the proficiency of a fully trained dispatcher and manages the Lead Phone
Performs equipment repair per Hill-Rom/Biomed competency
Interacts with patients, family members, nursing, and technical staff
Follows established department procedures to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification
Transport patients, charts, specimens, and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and efficient manner 100% of the time
Verifies mode of transportation, obtains patient chart, necessary paperwork, required linens, and/or equipment. Notifies nursing staff of patient being transported and the destination
Initiates or assists in the transfer process of patients from bed to mode of transportation
Requests and obtains instruction or assistance from nursing staff for patients who require isolation techniques, two-man lifts, bedpan or restroom assistance, or who has support devices requiring special handling
Returns patient to bed utilizing proper transfer techniques 100% of the time to avoid injury to patient and/or self. Verifies that patients basic needs are satisfied upon return to bed. Places call light beside table and similar items within patients reach. Offer to put away personal items and report patients needs to nursing staff before leaving the unit. Reports patient has been returned to the nursing unit
Notifies dispatcher of completion of assigned duties and proceeds as instructed. If a delay problem occurs in transporting a patient, transporter informs dispatcher immediately and proceeds according to instruction issued
Returns equipment promptly to proper location after use using proper infection control procedures. Collect sand clean equipment at designated times per established department procedures
Transports patients upon discharge, helping the patient in and out of vehicles at entrances
Follows up on complaints, provide solutions, and report issues to supervisor
Performs morgue duties: pick-up, bag, and release of deceased.

Minimum Qualifications
Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire (with prior approval)
Proper Lift Clinical competency
Hill-Rom/Biomed competency
Must be at least 18 years of age will be working in Radiology areas (per Intermountain's Employment of Minors Policy).
At least one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferred- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of customer service experience
Physical Requirements
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
