Software Development Engineer I | Backend ABOUT SPOTDRAFT SpotDraft is on a mission to help legal and business teams move faster, together. We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the core systems powering SpotDraft’s platform. In this role, you’ll work on designing reliable backend services, improving system performance, and building scalable APIs and distributed systems that support our rapidly growing product and customer base. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and AI teams to develop high-impact features, improve platform reliability, and contribute to the architecture and scalability of our backend infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings strong fundamentals in backend development, distributed systems, and scalable application design, preferably within fast-paced B2B product or SaaS environments. We’re looking for engineers with 2–4 years of experience who are excited to solve complex engineering problems and build products with real customer impact. WHAT YOU’LL DO BACKEND DEVELOPMENT & SYSTEM DESIGN - Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs - Develop reliable and high-performance systems to support SpotDraft’s platform - Optimize applications for scalability, performance, and maintainability - Contribute to architectural discussions and long-term backend system design OWNERSHIP & ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE - Own modules and services end-to-end, from development to deployment and maintenance - Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across backend systems and services - Build reusable libraries and abstractions to improve engineering efficiency - Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION - Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and AI teams to deliver impactful features - Work with tech leads and leadership on execution and technical planning - Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and team initiatives WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR - 2–4 yrs in Backend Engineering or Software Development - Strong proficiency in Python or similar backend programming languages - Experience building RESTful APIs and scalable backend services - Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, and CS fundamentals - Experience working with Linux-based systems and development environments - Familiarity with distributed systems and scalable application design - Prior experience in B2B product-first or SaaS companies is preferred - Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset WHY SPOTDRAFT? - Brilliant teammates—Work with some of the sharpest minds in legal tech. - Expand your network—Interact with top founders, investors, and industry leaders. - Real impact—Take ownership of projects and see your work in action. - Big goals, bold moves—We trust you to deliver, innovate, and push boundaries.
