We are building next-generation AI agents that are adaptive, context-aware, and capable of long-horizon reasoning across large-scale environments and tools.</p> <p><br>We are looking for a Principal Applied Scientist to lead research and development in agentic AI systems for enterprise-level workflow automation and augmentation. This role will focus on context engineering, persistent memory architectures, and retrieval systems that enable AI agents to operate reliably across long-running, multi-step tasks.</p> <p><br>You will help define how scalable, production-ready AI agents reason, remember, and act within complex enterprise environments — shaping Unity’s long-term agent ecosystem for creators and enterprise customers alike.</p> <p>This role is ideal for someone passionate about long-context reasoning, structured memory systems, retrieval-augmented architectures, and the design of resilient, continuously learning agents.<br><br></p> <p><strong>What you'll be doing</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead the design of enterprise-grade agentic AI systems capable of long-horizon reasoning, multi-step planning, and autonomous workflow execution, translating advanced research into scalable production solutions.</li> <li>Architect and advance context engineering and memory frameworks, including persistent, episodic, and semantic memory systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and long-context optimization strategies that balance accuracy, latency, and cost.</li> <li>Build and evaluate large-scale AI models in production, with deep expertise in multimodal or LLM-based systems, retrieval pipelines, and environment-grounded reasoning using modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).</li> <li>Drive cross-functional impact and technical leadership, defining evaluation benchmarks, ensuring system reliability and governance readiness, mentoring senior talent, and shaping the long-term vision for Unity’s enterprise AI ecosystem.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What we're looking for</strong></p> <ul> <li>Advanced academic or equivalent industry expertise in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related fields, with deep specialization in agentic AI systems, long-horizon reasoning, and context management.</li> <li>Strong architectural experience in memory and retrieval systems, including persistent context frameworks, RAG pipelines, knowledge-grounded AI, and scalable multi-session agent behavior design.</li> <li>Proven production experience building and deploying large-scale models, with strong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX), and a clear understanding of enterprise AI trade-offs (latency, cost, reliability, governance, observability).</li> <li>Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration, including designing evaluation frameworks for reasoning accuracy and agent reliability, and partnering effectively with engineering, product, and enterprise stakeholders.</li> </ul> <p><strong>You Might Also Have</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience building enterprise AI copilots or workflow automation agents, with a strong foundation in distributed systems, large-scale infrastructure, and advanced architectures such as vector databases, knowledge graphs, hybrid search, reinforcement learning, planning systems, or tool-using agents.</li> <li>Experience designing production-ready AI systems for enterprise environments, including compliance, privacy, governance, and reliability considerations, with a strong passion for building scalable AI that augments human productivity.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Additional information</strong></p> <ul> <li>Relocation support is not available for this position</li> <li>Work visa/immigration sponsorship is not available for this position</li> </ul> <p><strong>Life at Unity</strong><br>We ...
