Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions and ensure product excellence. If you have a passion for cutting-edge technology and a strong background in mechanical design, we want to hear from you! Meet the Team Join the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering team responsible for designing high-performance, scalable networking systems optimized for hyperscale and data center environments. Our solutions support massive throughput, energy efficiency, and programmability to meet the demands of AI workloads, cloud-scale fabrics, and next-generation data center architectures. We are pioneering the future of data center networking by delivering unified, programmable silicon architectures that form the foundation for hyperscale and web-scale deployments. Our devices are designed for fixed and modular platforms, providing high speed without compromising programmability, buffering, power efficiency, scalability, or feature flexibility. Be part of our team driving innovative network infrastructure solutions that power AI/ML clusters, large-scale fabrics, and data center interconnects. Your Impact As a member of the platform engineering mechanical team, you will work on current and next-generation mechanical designs for hyperscale and data center networking systems. We seek individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and value open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork, and customer success. Architect, design, and deliver system mechanical designs based on product requirements for data center and hyperscale networking equipment. Lead issue resolution by collaborating closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers, developing mitigation plans, and keeping management informed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Hardware, Signal Integrity, CAD, Thermal, Manufacturing, etc.) to negotiate requirements and assess technical risks and tradeoffs. Design and develop innovative mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast materials that meet EMI, safety, and compliance standards. Work with thermal engineers to design and implement effective cooling solutions optimized for high-density data center environments. Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong multitasking skills. Provide technical design guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Communicate effectively and collaborate efficiently with cross-functional team members to achieve project goals and contribute positively to the engineering community. Minimum Qualifications: BS in Mechanical Engineering plus 8 years of hands-on industry experience. Expert proficiency in one of the following 3D MCAD tools: Creo, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX, with a minimum of 10,000 hours of experience. Experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines. Proficient in verbal and written English communication. Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience in the mechanical design of computer/network equipment designed to operate in data centers Experience in designing sheet metal enclosures for fixed and modular systems Broad knowledge of other cross-functional design areas: PCB layout, EMI, safety, and thermal. Experience in plastic and die-casting design and tooling Demonstrated knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis. Experience in structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis tools, such as PTC Creo Simulate or Ansys Thermal system design experience highly desired: heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors Why Cisco?
